Buddy / Description of final project

These portraits are one set of many I took as my final project at The Oxbow School last year during my Spring semester. The project had two components - a research paper and an art piece of some type. My research was based on the domestication and history of dogs, how they fit in to our society, and how our relationship with them has changed over time. I read some amazing books like "The Genius of Dogs" by Brian Hare and "Inside of a Dog" by Alexandra Horowitz. Then as my art component, I took portraits of people with the dogs around Napa and developed the film in the dark room on campus. These pictures of Buddy are just one of the many I will post of different people and dogs I met during my project. One thing I learned was just how unique every dog/owner relationship are - they span from the more companionships types all the way to working relationships as aids. Dogs are beautiful creatures in every aspect and my project was dedicated to the blessing that they are and all the joy and love they bring into this world.
